DECLAN DEVINE
—
Project Leader
Declan Devine is a life-long resident of East Dallas who grew to love nature by helping his mom in the garden, raising butterflies, and exploring a nearby abandoned railroad track. In high school, summer internships at the Trinity River Audubon Center and Downtown Dallas Inc. solidified his interest in natural systems and the built environment of cities. This led to him studying Landscape Architecture at The Ohio State University, where he graduated in 2021.
At OSU, Declan developed a particular interest in landscapes that integrate water infrastructure and ecological vigor. For his independent study project, he studied the novel ecologies embedded in North Texas’ reservoirs’ vast accumulations of silt. Using White Rock Lake as a case study, he documented its seasonal change with drone photography over the course of a year and studied the history of its past dredgings. The project concluded with a speculative redesign of sunset bay driven by the strategic redeposition of dredged silt.
After work, you can find Declan biking around White Rock Lake, gardening, sitting on the porch, and looking for the best noodle spots in town.
