Jessie Hitchcock

Landscape Designer

In further pursuit of her life-long passion for positively impacting her community and the environment, in August 2019, Jessie began coursework toward a master’s degree in landscape architecture through the University of Texas at Arlington. She thrived in her studio cohort’s creative and amicable culture and especially enjoyed the community service aspect of the program’s curricula. Her interest in place-based design—specifically considering the relationships within an area’s history, culture, and local environmental systems—informed her thesis research, which focused on designing for the preservation and resilience of Texas’s natural swimming holes.

Born and raised in “small town” Texas, Jessie spent her Friday nights cheering on her dad’s team at the local high school football stadium. She learned the importance of building connections with and investing in her community at an early age. She quickly understood that this “community” included many components in addition to people. As a landscape designer at Studio Outside, Jessie hopes to create inspiring spaces that bring joy to individuals and communities, encourage harmony between humans, flora, and fauna, and positively impact local and global ecological systems.

Prior to earning an MLA degree, Jessie earned her bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Angelo State University. She subsequently enjoyed working as an elementary school teacher and, most recently, as a legal assistant. In addition to spending time with her growing family, Jessie enjoys exploring the backroads of Texas, hiking diverse terrains, and building genuine relationships.
