Situated on the southern bank of the Han River, the SSG Mall River Hills is South Korea's first true western-style shopping mall as well as one of the country's largest retail centers. By borrowing from the language of the architecture and fabric of the native Korean landscape and culture, the landscape vision integrates the elegant formality of the four main entrances and mall frontage with the scenic earth forms of the Korean hill countryside beyond. Visitors approaching the mall entrances will be greeted with the soothing sounds and cool mists emanating from fountains as they take in the graceful stone tapestry unfolding before them on the plaza ground plane. The mall frontage, abutted by cascading fountains and raised outdoor dining spaces, houses a linear bosque of birch trees growing in planters which undulate and tilt to the cadence of the architecture. The park and pedestrian walk at the rear of the mall are defined by drifts of native trees and raised planting beds that manifest the surrounding mountainous topography in an architectural form.
