Grandview residence
san antonio, Texas

A family home updated and expanded in San Antonio exudes a quiet, contemplative landscape.  Large, old oak trees shade the property and frame the façade with a spare and controlled ground plane. The original motor court in front now expands the driveway to the new garage and loggia structure.

The lawn panels in the back are in stark contrast to the lush, colorful beds around the perimeter.  Pathways to the guest house and pergola are made from local limestone to complement the brick and stone on the structures. An existing pergola is framed by an expanded stone patio adjacent to the small greenhouse at the back of the property. A large heritage oak formerly on the edge of the pool is now surrounded by gravel for entertaining space and a shady spot for furniture. Handmade lanterns and gates were reused wherever possible.

The guest house patio is planted with tropical textures and reads dramatically with lighting in the evening. The garden strives to be an elegant partner to an elegant family home.
