House in the woods
highland village, Texas

This unique forested property, surprisingly located in the heart of a residential neighborhood, provides a private oasis for the contemporary house to nestle. Existing post oak trees give an aged and wooded character to the site. The design approach is subtle to reflect the clients’ desire to maintain a sense of privacy with ample space between the neighbors.

A bridge to the front door spans a ravine planted heavily with trees, shrubs, and groundcovers. Native vegetation was revitalized with natural grasses and understory planting. Drought-tolerant plants minimize the need for irrigation under the already established post oak trees.

Outdoor spaces create nooks for the children to gather and the family to entertain. Broad views overlook the lake from the pool, spa, and dining areas. A hidden spot for the trampoline and kayaks makes full use of the aspects of lake living.
