Dallas Zoo Education Center
Dallas, Texas

Studio Outside teamed with Lake|Flato architects on a new education campus located at the Dallas Zoo. The 2.6-acre site plan includes an education village consisting of four classroom buildings, a multi-purpose auditorium, new administrative offices for the education staff, a pedestrian bridge, and a secondary entry and plaza for the zoo. The design team worked closely with the zoo staff in order to carefully site the new buildings in sensitive, ecoologically-disturbed areas. The classroom buildings are perched over the banks of Chambers Creek. Since the site is located in a flood plain, the re-naturalization of the native riparian landscape and rain water harvesting were key elements to the design.
