lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center Master pLan
Austin, texas
For over 40 years, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center has been a premier destination for research and tourism, designated Texas’ official state botanic garden and arboretum in 2017. Studio Outside, in collaboration with Lake Flato, Ten Eyck Landscape Architects, and other consultants, is leading a new master plan to shape the Center’s next 40 years while building on its legacy of conservation, education, and ecological stewardship. The plan addresses accessibility, parking, circulation, and wayfinding while expanding horticultural experiences, educational opportunities, and connections to the Centerís research. Central to the vision is land and water conservation–protecting habitats, safeguarding geological features, and implementing on-site water harvesting. Spanning 284 acres, the plan balances horticultural design with preserved landscapes, offering diverse ways to experience native Texas plants and enhancing visitor and staff experiences while fostering deeper community engagement.
