midcentury restoration
Dallas, Texas

Nestled beneath a canopy of mature oak trees, Midcentury Restoration is a celebrated Dallas home designed by Scott Lyons, known for dissolving the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces. Expansive glass panes and sturdy brick walls create a dynamic interaction between the house and its surroundings, with shifting light and shadow animating the architecture throughout the day. The ground plan follows the site’s natural rhythm — a curved patio tracing the line of the original terrace, preserving the home’s connection to its past. Privacy was thoughtfully considered, with a solid hedge enclosing the front lawn, muffling the noise of the busy street beyond while framing a serene view from the main living area. The covered terrace, an open-air gallery, invites art into the landscape, while the more secluded rear terrace, shaded by Japanese maples, offers a quiet retreat. A restored single-jet fountain adds a subtle, meditative element, completing this careful restoration of a truly iconic home.
