Sculpture Garden
at The Dallas Museum of Art
Dallas, Texas

The sculpture garden at the DMA was originally designed by Dan Kiley in 1983 in collaboration with Edward Larabee Barnes. The modernist plaza needed minor updates and renovations of structural failures which have occurred over the garden’s three decades. The museum’s director wanted to improve the ability of the museum and public to access and use the space—introducing a multi-use lawn, pedestrian-friendly spaces, and opening up another entrance to the garden from the front door of the museum. Studio Outside worked carefully with museum staff to make the improvements within the carefully crafted garden, introducing some new elements while preserving the integrity of the original design.
