Verde creek Ranch
south of kerrville, Texas
This two-acre pocket nestled into this large family ranch expanding over a thousand acres sits the Verde Creek Ranch House, encompassed by the beauty of the Texas Hill Country. Imagined as a place for the family for generations and surrounded by large trees and a creek, the house and landscape blend into the land seamlessly. A barn and pasture for horses reside south of the main house, separated by a ha-ha wall, so the views are uninterrupted from the main living and entertaining areas.
A compilation of buildings and cabins edge a large open green space with native trees and bed plantings. Stone pathways run adjacent to stone walls from the parking areas. Enticing planting to invite inviting wildlife interaction with the landscape was an integral part of the design. It is not unusual to see elk peering through the large glass windows as there are no fences or barriers between nature and the living quarters.
The property rich in limestone gave a unique opportunity for the architect to collect and create a rustic stairway down from the master bedroom and openair shower. An outdoor gravel area for the fire pit and seating is on the creekís edge that flows into the lake. Enormous cypress stands provide instant age, and a large chinquapin oak tree provides shade on the north side of the main living area.
