Vickery Meadows Branch Library
Dallas, Texas

Vickery Meadows is one of the densest neighborhoods in Dallas with an ethnically diverse population of immigrants and refugees speaking over thirty languages. Within this neighborhood that embraces cultural diversity, the new branch library offers a landscape design that is welcoming with thoughtful programming to provide opportunities for area residents to gather. The plaza’s radiating form embraces the neighborhood and is subtly designed to accommodate booths during neighborhood festivals and fairs. A playground anchors the south of the plaza to encourage play and movement. Prior to development of the site, a neighborhood cultural highlight was lighting the existing trees on the empty lot for the holidays. The Festival of Lights celebration will continue for years to come with a large specimen quality Allee Elm featured in the plaza near the library’s entrance.
